Meet The Instructor

Pedro J. Cuartas, DDS

Dr. Cuartas was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. In 1996, he received is B.S. degree from Loyola University and graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 2000. In addition to his general dental practice, he has also developed a special interest in sleep apnea, sleep breathing disorders, TMJ, orthodontics, and implant dentistry. He has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education courses and programs to further enhance his knowledge skill and ability to provide his patients with the best treatment available. He has been practicing comprehensive orthodontics for adults and children as a general dentist since 2001.

Dr. Cuartas began his professional involvement with Dental Sleep Medicine in 2007.  He is the clinical director for South LA Dental Sleep Medicine, and has recently formed Dental Sleep Services, LLC (DSS). He created DSS to help physicians incorporate proactive screening and home sleep testing (HST) for Obstructive Sleep Apnea into their practices. The company provides primary care physicians custom OSA screening forms, patient information on OSA, and resources that make it easy to provide HST directly to their eligible patients. DSS provides physicians with an efficient and comprehensive approach to screen, tests and get their patients treated for OSA with ongoing support, effective long term follow-up, compliance monitoring, and treatment success.  DSS was also created to help train and equip dentists with a unique and practical approach to Dental Sleep Medicine.

In his personal time, Dr. Pedro enjoys both of his passions – his family and aviation. He has been married for 17 years and has a 12 year old son. Dr. Cuartas is also a volunteer pilot for “Pilots for Patient”, a non-profit organization that flies cancer patients to and from M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas.

“At Dental Sleep Services (DSS), we believe in pushing limits and boundaries.  We believe in challenging the status quo.  We believe in thinking differently.  We’re challenging the status quo by creating OSA awareness in the community, and creating opportunities that allow more individuals to restore their health and quality of life.  We provide practical dental sleep medicine training for dentists, and with our local physicians’ help, we are increasing the number of people screened, and ultimately treated for OSA, while getting patients involved throughout the entire process for improved long term success.” Dr. Cuartas
